The mysticism of the Middle Ages is preserved in the majestic architecture of Gothic cathedrals. Their entrance portals are adorned with scenes of everyday life and the Bible carved in stone, conveying sacred stories even to visitors who could not read. Great rose windows and expanses of glittering coloured glass flood the interior with light, while slender flying buttresses support the towering walls of the nave from outside. The nave and transept meet at the crossing, forming the cruciform centre of the building. This etching brings together the defining elements of Gothic architecture in a mysterious architectural vision.
