Michael Darling

I draw in response to the nature around me and create linescapes with their own rules, rhythms and spaces.
Michael Darling was born 1961 in North London. His early studies took in an art foundation course in High Wycombe and was followed by combined Fine Art (painting) and English Literature course at Exeter University and Exeter College of Art & Design, England. His first work experience was painting and curating at the Spacex Gallery in Exeter moving on to commercial art and design work for the music industry with Stylorouge in London.
Munich has been his home and workbase since the late 1980s where he discovered his love for magazine design working exclusively for Condé Nast publishers designing, illustrating and art directing the German editions of Vogue and GQ. Since 2000 design apartment, Munich has been his studio, gallery and workspace for art and design projects ranging from international magazine concept and design, art courses, events and exhibitions. Drawing has accompanied him throughout – working from observed life; people on a train, trees in the landscape, details in the undergrowth or dancers warming up – he continues to be inspired by these living lines.
